About us
Ma Vache à Dorer was born from the meeting of Silke and Carina, two women passionate about Swiss craftsmanship. In her gilding workshop, Silke had the idea of gilding traditional Swiss wooden toys and in 2020 she brought this vision to life through the iconic wooden cows. In 2023, Carina joined the project, contributing her expertise and helping it grow.

The wooden cow, an iconic Swiss toy
Carved from quality wood, this iconic toy embodies the rustic charm and authentic craftsmanship of Switzerland.
Each wooden cow is hand-carved and hand-painted by passionate Swiss artisans, ensuring careful attention to detail and exceptional quality. Both sturdy and durable, these cows also carry a unique history. Sourced from second-hand markets, they are given a new life while preserving their character and story.
Our gilded wooden cows are far more than simple objects: they are precious, made-to-order keepsakes that recall the joys of childhood, the Swiss Alpine landscape and the country’s rich rural traditions. Whether for a special occasion or simply for the pleasure of giving, these pieces are designed to create lasting memories. Offer a piece of Swiss tradition, crafted with care and expertise.

Expertise
Drawing on ancestral know-how, we carry forward excellence and refinement, adding a touch of prestige and elegance to each creation through gilding.
Art
Each project is a work of art, where artistic expression meets technical expertise. With skill and care, we transform raw materials into unique creations.
Sustainability
Our cows come from the second-hand market, including resale platforms and flea markets, reflecting our commitment to caring for the planet.
Uniqueness
Each creation carries its own story and personality, reflecting our commitment to individuality.
Craftsmanship
We believe in tradition, where each piece is crafted with care, quality and authenticity.
A heritage to preserve
We are passionate about excellence and the beauty of traditional craftsmanship, and through our gilded cows, we proudly carry on a centuries-old tradition: water gilding. Passed down through generations of dedicated artisans, this technique transforms ordinary wooden cows into luminous, timeless works of art.
Our artisans
Ma Vache à Dorer is built on strong partnerships, grounded in values of respect, trust and solidarity. We believe that collaboration and unity are essential in overcoming challenges and achieving shared goals. More than a company, we are a close-knit community where every individual is valued and every story contributes to our collective journey.

Silke Droessaert
Independent glider and framer for 40 years
From an early age, growing up on the shores of Lake Geneva, Silke was drawn to craftsmanship and manual work. In 1979, she entered the workshop of a master framer in Lausanne by chance and, three years later, graduated with a Swiss Federal Certificate in gilding preparation, along with a lasting passion for gilding. Under the guidance of this master gilder, she learned to value historic works and to recognise their period and style. She gradually discovered traditional ornamentation such as cherubs, acanthus leaves, rosettes and heart motifs, deepening her understanding of gold and its many subtleties. She later trained in the conservation of graphic works at the École du Vésinet in Paris, specialising in print restoration. To this day, she remains enthusiastic about the diversity of projects entrusted to her, contributing to the preservation of heritage for future generations. Over time, she has built a small, skilled team specialising in restoration, framing and creative gilding. Drawing on this experience, Silke explores new creative paths, applying traditional techniques to her own artistic work. In her workshop in Vufflens-la-Ville, she transforms simple objects into unique works of art, enhancing and modernising them with gold and silver. Whether sourced from recycling centres, flea markets or resale platforms, each object is elevated through water gilding, a traditional technique. Under her hands, quality wood - tools, toys, masks, cows or goats - becomes a distinctive and expressive piece.

Carina Challande
Apprentice glider and framer
Enriched by both Swiss and Portuguese cultures, Carina grew up in the Gruyère region of Switzerland while spending her summers in Portugal. A passionate traveller, she has explored Europe and Latin America with a backpack for more than 25 years. For twenty years, she devoted much of her time to raising her three children, while continuing to pursue her own aspirations and encouraging them to do the same. Her love for art and hands-on activities naturally led her towards creative professions. She worked as a creative activities teacher for children aged 6 to 16 for over two decades and joined the cultural mediation team at the Vitromusée in Romont in 2018. When facing the challenges of professional reintegration, she found a natural path in gilding and framing. She considers the years spent learning alongside Silke in the Vufflens-la-Ville workshop a true privilege. Enthusiastic and committed, she approaches this apprenticeship with the intention of enhancing unique works of art. Her careful and methodical nature drives her to refine her techniques, while her creative mindset brings a fresh perspective to each piece.

Thierry Crausaz
Collaborator
An expert in sanding, gluing and whitening, Thierry ensured that our cows retained their beautiful curves through his skill and meticulous attention to detail. Sadly, he passed away in the spring of 2025. He will always remain an important part of the creative process behind Ma Vache à Dorer. Dear Thierry, rest in peace.
Inclusion and professional reintegration
We are fortunate to work with individuals receiving disability benefits or undergoing professional reintegration, offering them meaningful opportunities for inclusion and personal development. Each member of our team, with their unique background and experience, contributes in a valuable way to our shared purpose.
