Frequently asked questions
- 01
No, our golden cows are made only to order, so we do not have any in stock.
- 02
Our cows come from second-hand markets, such as flea markets and online resale shops. Thanks to our expertise, we give them a new life while preserving their unique character and history.
- 03
We need approximately one month to create a gilded cow after receiving your order and payment. Our gilding and framing workshop also restores a wide variety of objects, which may affect the production time.
- 04
We use the tempera gilding technique, a traditional method that applies a thin layer of gold to wooden surfaces. This technique is often used in restoration and artistic decoration, giving a brilliant and refined finish.

Each gilded wooden cow comes with a certificate of authenticity presented in elegant packaging, embodying sophistication and exclusivity. This document provides specific details about the item, such as:
Description : Its dimensions and materials
Provenance : Known traces of its journey
Signature : The craftswoman's signature along the left hind leg and its hoof painted black
Photographs : Before and after
Serial number : A unique number to ensure traceability
First name : The first letter of the first name is determined by the year, just like it is for real cows.
This certificate attests that our cows are authentic and unique. We buy back wooden toys from the second-hand market and transform them into works of art using the ancient technique of tempera gilding. This idea is an original creation of the gilder and framer Silke Droessaert. It guarantees that the object is exactly what it claims to be, which is particularly important in high-value transactions. We are committed to guaranteeing the authenticity and durability of our works, thanks to meticulous craftsmanship and a constant focus on quality.
We equip each cow with new accessories (bell, ears, horns and leather collar). And finally, each one is carefully packed in a felt-lined cardboard box.

Gold leaf is available in various thicknesses, qualities, and colors. Guaranteeing a uniform thickness is difficult, as the leaves tend to thin in the center. Generally, the estimated thickness is approximately 1/7000 mm, or 0.14 μm . When purchasing gold leaf, it is more relevant to consider the weight per 1000 sheets rather than the thickness. The thinnest sheets weigh approximately 12g/1000 sheets, while the thickest weigh approximately 50g/1000 sheets.

This is a delicate decorative object, to be displayed away from sunlight and humidity. It is best to handle a gilded cow with white jeweler's gloves or a soft cloth to protect the gold from moisture and oxidation. Dusting should always be done with a dry, soft cloth.
